Logitech Pro X Wireless Gaming Keyboard Review

A keyboard with a swappable switch is nothing new; You can switch from, for example, blues clicks to straight red on several keyboards over the years. But they remain mainly in the shadows, made by a small company for an exclusive audience of keyboard fans. That changed today with Logitech’s announcement of the G Pro X. A $ 150 keyless model with a pop-out switch. And you can replace it with a $ 50 kit that features GX Blue, GX Brown, and GX Red switches.

The GX switch not made by Cherry but has a taste similar to the famous Cherry MX variety. According to Logitech, the Cherry MX switch will be compatible with the keyboard too – and also standard third-party keycaps for those who want to customize their keyboard even further.

The keyboard and switch set will be sent together with a pull to remove both the key cover (attached horizontally on each side). And the underlying switch (locks up and down and requires a bit of pressure before changing it). Although it’s a bit boring to get rid of every button and every switch, the process is really easy when you get used to it. And the switch returns quickly, only fits in one direction and seems to remain firmly in place. A Logitech representative told me they tested switches and sockets with more than 100 plugs and pulls. And which is more than enough considering that most people probably would not exchange their keys more than three or four times at the most.

According to a Logitech representative, the company “tried” the idea of a swappable switch. And which showed that if this was successful. There would likely be more products with the swapping switch feature, possibly a model that included a number pad. But the “try” goes both ways because there will also be a G Pro (non-X) version of this keyboard with a switch soldered to a PCB for $ 130.

Logitech sent us a G Pro X review unit with a GX Blue switch, as well as GX Brown & GX Red. Although we don’t have the time to do a full review, we can say the keyboard has a substantial feel. However, it’s plasticky, similar to the previous mechanics. RGB key lighting also looks good, though it’s not as bright as you see on several other keyboards.

As someone who loves the idea of keyboard adjustments, we love the idea of being able to exchange different switches. And I’m happy that companies like Logitech bring it to the stream price at a reasonable price.

The problem, however, is that mechanical keyboards from smaller brands have become so affordable that you can often find models on Amazon. And other places that feel as good as the G Pro for only $ 50 that you will pay for a new set of switches from Logitech. Indeed, they usually don’t offer the powerful software and lighting controls that you get from a Logitech or Corsair keyboard, but not everyone wants or needs those features. We don’t mind having any light on our trusted Das with the Blue switches that we use for typing. But the colors and adjustments we need to play games are available whenever we want to enter our clacker, Clair.

So if you’re a big fan of Logitech software & keyboard design, and you think you might change your mind about your switch preferences. The G Pro X is worth considering. Remember that for the $ 200 you spend on a Logitech keyboard and a separate set of keys, you can buy two excellent keyboards with two different types of switches. And as natural as Logitech makes the process of swapping switches, swapping USB plugs is still much more comfortable than stopping and replacing 87 keycaps and 87 switches.
