Logitech K520 Review

While there are no bells & whistles that you will find on pricier keyboards, the newer, Logitech K520 wireless keyboard is the basis for wallet-friendly prices. Offering armrests, dedicated media keys, and more than a dozen programmable keys, the K520’s keys feel smooth and responsive. Registered at $ 60 but available on Amazon with half of it, the old software from the K520 and fragile Mac support are the only significant drawbacks.

The Design

The Logitech K520 feels comfortable and spacious. It comes complete with a unique numeric keypad, plastic palm rest (non-padded, unfortunately), and a pair of retractable single step feet that tilt the keyboard at an 8-degree angle.

K520 offers a total of 15 hotkeys for various functions, from Home and Mail to Application Switcher and PC Lock. You can reprogram this hotkey using the aging, clunky, but still fixable SetPoint utility. (To use a more modern keyboard tool from the company, Logitech Options, you must upgrade to K540, which is a little more expensive.) For example, you can set specific hotkeys to open web pages, programs, folders, or files, or you can assign individual key presses.

Also great: a unique play button and media volume that surrounds the Logitech logo above the main keyboard.

The K520 keyboard connected to your PC using 2.4GHz USB dongle. I don’t have to install any drivers to start typing or mousing with the K520 combo. I just connected the dongle to my PC’s USB port, and everything works. I have never experienced problems with wireless connectivity or interference during my tests, and the keyboard reconnected almost immediately after sleeping after a short period of unused.

Designed to work primarily with Windows computer, the K520 will also be connected to a Mac system. However, you won’t be able to customize one of the hotkeys if you do.

The nuances of typing

The K520 key is spacious, slightly concave smooth, comfortable, and relatively quiet. It boasts a satisfying bulge and a springy rebound when struck. While I generally prefer a buttoned keyboard rather than a rough one, I am quite happy with the sharp and sharp protrusion on the K520 membrane-style key.

Like the K540, a newer version of this keyboard, the K520 key can be set to remain silent without feeling slippery. A sculpture design that is integrated with a spacious keyboard makes the easy discovery.
