Logitech G500s Gaming Mouse Review
The best gaming mouse gives you the least distance between you and the game you are playing. Logitech G500s is a simple peripheral that provides the best experience in its class by delivering gamers precisely what they need, and nothing is excessive. This mouse offers a comfortable design, powerful software, and features that can be adjusted at an aggressive price, making it our top choice as a multipurpose gaming mouse.
The G500s resembles the utmost other recent Logitech mice: Gray and relatively short, with textured pads for the thumb and outer fingers. The thumb rest is the perfect shape for the grip of the palm and claws, and the right & left buttons of the mouse are curved, giving the device a flat bow. We are not sure whether Logitech can design a more comfortable mouse.
The G500s offers ten programmable buttons: left and right buttons, scroll wheel that clicks three directions, three thumb buttons. And two buttons on the far gone that automatically control point-per-inch sensitivity (DPI). Each button feels different, and the third thumb button, located between two more prominent, is a nice touch. That allows additional buttons without reducing the taste of the first two.
We have two quibbles with the physical design of the device. The first is the scroll wheel, which has the same problematic functionality as other Logitech scroll wheels: By default, the scroll wheel is without much friction, almost without limits. Users can press the button to make it more like a traditional scroll wheel, but even so, it feels slightly loose and imprecise.
Like other modern Logitech mice, the G500s uses the Logitech Gaming Software package. This software is in-depth & customizable. Although it takes some time to get all the ins and outs, experienced users can do anything with downloadable Logitech Gaming Software.
One of the best thing of the Logitech software is its ability to recognize the game that installed on your PC. And help you program the game’s unique profile.
Users can also program up to five specific DPI settings between 200 & 8,200. First-person-shooter fans, in particular, will be pleased to know that the G500s can also separate the X and Y axis DPI, giving you more precision when aiming through iron sights.
The G500s generally sells itself as an FPS mouse or all-purpose gaming mouse. In our tests, we discovered that it worked well in both cases. After linking our profile with our four standard test games (“BioShock Infinite,” “Batman: Arkham City,” “StarCraft II,” and “World of Warcraft”), we found that all games play well and benefit from additional buttons.
Even the DPI adjustment button proved more useful than we had previously predicted. In games like “StarCraft II” or “World of Warcraft,” you don’t need to keep changing the DPI. We can choose a single practical DPI and reuse buttons for additional commands, which frees our hands to focus on keyboard commands.
The G500s is accurate and appropriate for all genres tested. We have no trouble firing weapons, controlling troops, sneaking behind enemies or casting magic spells, depending on the game. The intuitive design of the mouse also means our hands are never separated from their proper place.
Logitech G500s is almost perfect. This gaming mouse includes smart design choices in every way and provides an experience that is not minimalist or ornate but balanced in every way. The G500s might not be the ideal mouse for every consumer and every genre, but it’s close enough. Unless you are a high-level multiplayer online gamer and need a lot of thumb buttons, you should consider the G500s in your search for a gaming mouse.
The Bad > DPI buttons could be better-placed, Weak scroll wheel
The Good > Comfortable design for long play sessions, Smart button positioning, Smart software with many options, Linking games is simple and intuitive, Extremely granular weight adjustment
Conclusion > The Logitech G500s is a superb gaming mouse that combines a comfortable and customizable design with robust software to give you an edge.
