Logitech Anywhere MX 2 Review

I tested MX Anywhere 2 with Mac and Windows laptops. I like it very much, even though it is ergonomically uncomfortable to use as an MX Master. It’s about as comfy as you could expect from a smallish mobile mouse designed to fit into the side pocket of your laptop bag easily. And it weighs good, which is 3.7 ounces (105 grams).

As you can expect from a high-end mouse, it has lots of bells and whistles. Thanks to Logitech’s Dark Field Laser technology, this tool works on almost any surface – from the glass table to the Formica style desk on my desk.

It has an integrated rechargeable battery that should last up to 60 days on a single charge, which is almost double the life of the MX Master battery. You can continue to use the mouse while charging with a Micro-USB cable, and charging just 1 minute gives you 2 hours of use. I can’t properly test battery life, but I don’t need to recharge in three weeks when I use it.

Like the MX Master, the mouse can connect to your Windows or Mac computer with the included Pico Unifying Receiver (a small USB dongle that also works with Logitech keyboards) or via Bluetooth Smart technology.

If you use Bluetooth, you can pair the mouse with up to three devices and switch between, for example, laptops, desktops, and tablets using the Logitech Bluetooth Easy-Switch button.

Using the Logitech Options software, you can adjust all buttons on the mouse. Meanwhile, Mac users enjoy the extra luxury of gesture support – most multi-finger trackpad movements can be duplicated on MX Anywhere 2 when pressing the plus button.

One of the essential buttons on the mouse is the scroll wheel. Like the MX Master, it has a fast adaptive scroll wheel that allows you to click-to-click autoshift to scroll very quickly at the push of a button. A smooth and precise scroll wheel is one component that helps justify the premium price of this mouse.

The mouse is connected via Bluetooth, or you can use the included Pico Unifying Receiver, which will also work with the Logitech keyboard.

What’s missing Well, you don’t get the MX Master thumbwheel for side-to-side scrolling and page changes, which is excellent for spreadsheet jockeys. It also loses the extra button where your thumb rests on the mouse.

But as far as the mouse moves, it is a decent successor to the original MX Anywhere, which is powered by two AA batteries and does not look or feel quite luxurious like this mouse but has similar features. The first MX Anywhere did come with its travel bag, and this new model did not. No big deal, but it’s always nice to have a little extra protection with your cellular product.

The Bad > Ergonomics aren’t that good as on Logitech’s larger MX Master; the rechargeable battery isn’t user-replaceable, but should last several years.

The Good > The Logitech MX Anywhere 2 is a rechargeable wireless mouse for Macs and Windows PCs that offers smooth, precise operation, lots of customization options and decent ergonomics for a mobile use, and works on almost on any surface. You can connect to up to three devices using Logitech’s included Unifying Receiver USB dongle or opt for Bluetooth connectivity. A speed-adaptive scroll wheel lets you auto-shift from click-to-click to hyperfast scrolling. Battery life is good.

Conclusion > The MX Anywhere 2 is a top-notch mobile mouse.
